Navels
The navel orange is a special type among the family of oranges. Also known as the Washington, Riverside or Bahia navel, this orange bears a second orange at the base or the blossom end of the original fruit. It seems like a conjoined twin. When observed without peeling, the blossom end resembles the human navel and hence the name, 'Navel orange'. This special species of orange was produced as a result of a single mutation in 1820 in an orchard of sweet oranges. One more feature which separates the navel orange from the normal orange, is its lack of seeds. This was also the result of the mutation.
